What Is A CMC?

CMC
is an acronym for Certified Management Consultant.
Why is this important when selecting a consultant?

The Value of the CMC to a Client:
Clients are assured of a CMC’s competence and ethical behavior since each CMC:
  • Completes a sophisticated peer and client review process with the IMCUSA.
  • Served at least 5 clients, and they are happy with the results.
  • Has a code of ethics and actually follows it.
  • Will turn business away if the cannot meet a client’s needs (perhaps referring them to a colleague who can).
  • Will be objective in all of dealings with clients.

Those who earn the CMC mark:

  • Join the ranks less than 1% of the consultants in the profession.
  • Are awarded a credential that is viewed by peers and can be positioned with customers as proof of competence, professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Can be referred by other consultants to clients with confidence.
  • Must continue to develop professionally and apply for Certification Renewal every three years.

What Qualifications Must a CMC Meet?

In addition to being a member in good standing of the IMCUSA, a CMC has:

  • at least three years experience as a management consultant.
  • at least a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • met strict certification requirements of the Institute of Management Consultants USA, an ISO-17024 certified organization.
  • met publicly recognized standards of competence and professional conduct for consultants.
  • undergone a thorough investigation of his or her consulting experience affirmed by 5 clients.
  • been interviewed by a panel of senior consultants (CMC’s) to verify his or her technical competence.
  • passed a written examination evidencing his or her familiarity with the Institute's Code of Ethics and the standards of competence as described in IMCUSA’s Common Body of Knowledge and Core Competencies documents.
